That's really how you need to approach this game if you want to get the most out of it. If you can do it yourself, it can be done better with a script and be automated. #Github bitburner scripts install#Also, buy at least like 5 augs before you install them, you will progress much faster than you would doing one at a time. I'm not going to spoil anything, but you simply reach a point in the game where it doesn't matter if you're Neo himself, your progress is gonna halt. #Github bitburner scripts code#I wasted the majority of my time in this game trying to optimize my code so much that I could avoid augmentations, I felt that they were a handicap that I wouldn't need if I just got better at coding. use the augments (and buy multiple before you install them) the transition time isn't very steep if you picked NS1, but it can be avoided all together. NS2 is modern Javascript and runs much faster in the game. If you choose the easy tutorial, and use NS1, you'll be taught and be using an older form of Javascript, that runs much slower in the game. use NS2 (and I highly suggest the advanced tutorial) Some friendly, spoiler-free tips (that I learned the hard way) This is the first review for a game that I've written in my life. I enjoy this game, I enjoy being able to look up Javascript tutorial videos and already understand things, while also learning new things I can do in the game, despite not having an single clue about Javascript before playing this. You don't need to completely play this game blind (highly advise against that), but make an effort to understand what it is the code is actually doing, so then you can do it yourself. If you intend to learn coding from this game, you're going to have be careful with using code that you don't understand. Due to how free (as in freedom) the game is, It's not difficult to search on YouTube/Google and copy-paste scripts that can burn through the whole game for you without having to learn a bit of coding (pun intended). The only con I can really think of with this game is an unavoidable one. The Dev(s) themselves invite people to find answers by looking through the source code and to progress by nearly any means you want. ![]() Something to mercilessly beat on to hone your skills. This game is like a Century Bob but for coding. I can't speak entirely on this bc I haven't completed the game yet (I'm at the endgame), but from what I've seen in forums is that this game and the Dev(s) encourage you to hack whatever you can with it. Although this game is on Steam (one of those rental companies) this game is available for download on github, and is free to play in any browser. Nearly every new game these days work off more of a 'rental' system, where a company allows you to play a game under their rules, and requires your personal information for you to play it. you can actually *own* the game, and your saved progress. #Github bitburner scripts software#Which is how more software should be, and aids with the intended outcome of the game. the game is FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) People who don't have the attention or devotion to solving problems in this game, will likely not be able to do the job outside of the game at a proficient level. #Github bitburner scripts professional#In a way, it kinda filters out who actually has what it takes to code at a professional level and who doesn't. If you're playing the game right, you shouldn't have to do a lot of waiting, if you do any at all. You need to be thinking multiplicatively, and not additively. #Github bitburner scripts how to#Once you stop thinking about how to automate things and make your code more efficient, your progress in the game will soon follow. In order to get anywhere in this game, you need to learn how to automate things with code and when things need to be automated. The game from the beginning is going to appear to have a ridiculous grind, with longer waiting times then the worst mobile game you can think of, and if you're doing everything manually, then it will. It's not that it teaches you how to code (which it does, it teaches Javascript) it's that the way the game is structured teaches you how you need to be thinking if you want to code successfully. The game seems to be a bit controversial bc of it's gameplay mechanics, however I think the way this game is designed could be considered genius. I'm assuming from all the references all over the place and the shared philosophies in the game, that the Dev(s) are also fans of that franchise. I got this game ~2 weeks ago, and it's passed Deus Ex as my favorite game of all time. ![]()
